The Providence Fire Department welcomed a new member to the team Monday.

Tyler, an arson squad K-9, is named after 7–year–old Tyler Seddon.

The Burrillville boy's battle with cancer captured the attention of first responders across the country.

"Tyler is a very unique tool that the arson squad has and it's honor that the Mayor, the Commissioner, the Fire Chief and Fire Marshall have recognized that," says dog handler Sean Reddy.

The English lab started working with the Providence Fire Department in May after finishing up 200 hours of training.

"They perform tasks that the most alert and perception human beings simply can't perform," says Mayor Angel Taveras.

Tyler Seddon just got a bone marrow transplant and is currently in remission.
