Pawtucket teachers have a new contract that includes both wage hikes and increases in their health care costs.

The Pawtucket Times reports the city's school department and the teachers' union signed the deal on Tuesday.

It provides raises totaling 6.75 percent through 2017.

The contract also increases insurance co-payments and creates a deductible health insurance plan, which will have teachers picking up a greater share of the cost of their treatment.

It took more than a year of negotiating for the two sides to reach the deal.
