Anyone who was caught in the rain Wednesday knows just how fast and furious it came down. For many Massachusetts drivers that meant slowing down to avoid getting stuck in massive puddles on the roadways. Fall River and Taunton were both especially hard hit.

By early morning Middle Street at Broadway Street near Fall River’s John F. Kennedy Park looked like raging rapids. The storm drains there were unable to keep up with the overflow of rain.

Stafford Square, another usual hot spot for flooding, also lived up to its reputation. At one point the ponding on the road there was so bad cars could barely pass. Fall River Police temporarily shut down part of Pleasant Street due to concerns that the water pressure would cause manhole covers to fly off. The area reopened around 9:30 AM.

County Street in Taunton also saw some minor street flooding in the area of Pete’s Market. Witnesses tell ABC6 News several cars got stuck in the high flood waters, about 6 inches, before police temporarily closed that road in order to allow it to drain. The water receded before 10 AM and the road was reopened to motorists.
