SWANSEA, MA-Lightening struck around 8 o’clock Monday morning splitting a huge pine tree in half.

“I'm glad we weren't here first of all because my car would've been parked right there,” said Jim Nightingale.

Jim and Sandra Nightingale came home Wednesday morning to find half a tree on the ground- the other half laying across their driveway and garden.

“I'm so thankful that nobody was hurt, that my dogs were safe, and that my house is still safe,” said Sandra Nightingale.

They're calling it a miracle because the lightning caused a fire inside the home in the washer and dryer. Their daughter was home and called firefighters.

Ironically, the daughter had a doctor's appointment scheduled during the time the lightning struck, but her appointment was canceled earlier this morning.

The sprinkler system, washer, dryer and some plants will need to be replaced. The homeowner says he's glad it wasn't worse.

Jim Nightingale said, “Nothing we can't live with. We have our home. Everyone here is safe, so we're quite happy.”
