Lakeville man attacked by hawk speaks out

This past Saturday on the 12th of July, a man suffered puncture wounds to the head along with a concussion from a hawk attack while he was out walking around his neighborhood in Lakeville.

"All the sudden something had me right around here and I knew it was a hawk because he had gone after me twice before" said victim Jeff Ryder.

According to Ryder, the hawk swooped down from behind him and dug talons into his head, as if to carry him away like prey.

"I noticed I was bleeding pretty bad and it was dripping down my neck and I knew I was in trouble," said Ryder.

Lakeville Fire and EMS took him to Beth Israel Hospital in Plymouth about an hour after the event occurred.

The attack occurred on Pantheon Road near Captains Way where, days later, neighbors are still talking about it.

"I don't wanna get attacked," said Kristen Iolli.

The hawk's nest is above Iolli's mailbox so she drives up to it to get her bills.

"I am a bit concern about mowing in that area," said Les Garnier.

The nest is in Garnier's yard.  He says the hawks have been around for years and have acted in the past.

"It didn't attack them expect one lady walking down the street and fortunately she had a wig on it tried to take her hair and the wig stayed up in the nest for a couple of years," said Garnier.

Ryder's hairy theory is the hawk was after his locks.

"If I go missing and you see a hawk with blond hair you'll know what happened," said Ryder.
