Portions of New Bedford beaches have been closed for swimming Thursday due to elevated bacteria levels from all of the rain on Wednesday.

City officials announced that they’ve closed several sections of East Beach along East Rodney French Boulevard and West Beach along West Rodney French Boulevard.

The closed portions are:

-East Rodney French Boulevard Sections: Tower 1, Tower 4, Davy's Locker

-West Rodney French Boulevard Sections:  Kid's Beach, J Beach, Squid Beach

Water quality at North 400 and South 400 beach on West Rodney French Blvd, as well as Tabor Park South Beach, are open and acceptable for swimming.
