Hundreds of soccer fans came out to Attleboro High School on Thursday to be a part of Geoff Cameron day.

"Never have I ever thought that I'd come back and have a day like this. It's great. It just shows that soccer here in this community is becoming huge,” said Cameron.

The Attleboro native was presented a citation by the mayor and was also given the keys to the city.

Many came to the event dressed in number 20 gear. A small baby was among those to put on the red white and blue, sporting a sign on his stroller saying he's the defender's biggest fan.

"We're Geoff's biggest but littlest fan we love watching him on TV," said Melissa Jost.

People waited in line for their chance to meet with the team USA star. Cameron signed autographs and took pictures with fans.

"It was a pretty cool experience to meet him and it was cool listening to what he was saying about how it was like to play in the World Cup,” said Jordan Thibodeau.

Many young fans at the event told ABC 6 News that they hope to one day grow up and be just like Cameron.

"He's a good defender and I'm kind of like a defender when I play soccer too,” said Declin Hastings.

"I've been playing since I was in Kindergarten and I really want to be a professional when I grow up,” said Nicholas Bozek.

Cameron says his hope is to be an inspiration to the next generation of soccer players.
