PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Nine candidates have qualified for a spot on the ballot for Rhode Island governor.

The secretary of state's office on Friday finalized the list of candidates who turned in enough signatures to appear on the ballot in either the Sept. 9 primary or the Nov. 4 general.

The Democrats, as expected, are Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, state Treasurer Gina Raimondo, former Obama administration official Clay Pell and contractor Todd Giroux.

The Republicans are Cranston Mayor Allan Fung and businessman and Moderate Party founder Ken Block.

Kate Fletcher and Leon Kayarian qualified as independents. James Spooner qualified as a Moderate.

Two more independents and a member of the Compassion Party who filed to run did not turn in the required 1,000 signatures.
