Today is the grand opening of the Providence Polaroid Project, just one of eight temporary PopUp Providence installations.

The Polaroid Project is a temporary Polaroid camera shop, instant film gallery, and participatory portrait studio at 235 Westminster Street.

The Project is free, and Providence residents are being encouraged to come and use one of their instant cameras to photograph Providence’s residents and all of the beauty of the city.

The Polaroid Project will be on Westminster Street through August 22nd.

Mayor Angel Taveras was presented the 2014 Outstanding Achievement Award today at the opening on behalf of the city of Providence. The award is recognition of Taveras’s PopUp Providence Project which was implemented to enliven neighborhoods and engage local residents with interactive art and culture projects.

Providence is named one of the “Most Livable” cities in America by the US Conference of Mayors.
