Swansea Police are investigating an armed robbery and stabbing that occurred on Wednesday, July 16th.

Around 2:05 AM, at the intersection of Ocean Grove Ave and Bluff Ave, a 21-year-old male was stopped in his car when he was approached by two males demanding the victim’s wallet.

The two suspects, both wearing hoodies to concealing their faces, reached into the car and grabbed the victim’s cell phone. A struggle ensued and one suspect took out a knife, attacking the victim.

The victim suffered lacerations to his arms, hand, legs, and forehead, before driving himself home and contacting police. He was later transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital via ambulance and was treated.

With assistance from New Bedford Police, the suspect, a 17-year-old male from New Bedford, was located and arrested on June 18, 2014.  No further details are released about his identity.

The suspect was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed robbery while masked. He was held on $500.00 cash bail, pending arraignment on July 21 in Fall River Juvenile Court.

Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the second suspect is asked to call the Swansea Police Department Detective Division at 508-674-8464.
