Providence Mayoral candidate Brett Smiley outlined what he calls his “Good Government Plan” calling for more transparency and an end to pay to play politics.

“At its core this plan is about access it is about preventing disproportionate access by those with financial means and political connections and it’s about ensuring equal access by all,” said Smiley.

Smiley’s 7-point plan called for contribution limits for individuals seeking city loans or tax plans and a two-year ban on former city employees lobbying the city.

During the announcement, Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts endorsed Smiley saying he will bring ethics back to city hall unlike fellow mayoral candidate Buddy Cianci who she accused of plaguing Providence with corruption.

Smiley has been the most outspoken opponent of Buddy Cianci’s candidacy criticizing the former mayor for his handling of the city. Cianci resigned from office after being convicted in a federal corruption case.

Smiley faces off against Jorge Elorza, Chris Young, and Michael Solomon on Sept. 9 in the Democratic Primary.
