The Newport Jazz Festival is celebrating its 60th anniversary this weekend at Fort Adams Park.

“The 60th anniversary is incredible for any institution especially for a Jazz Festival because each festival is really its own unique thing,” said Jazz Festival Associate Producer Danny Melnick.

Thirty bands will play on several different stages at the park over the next two days.

Day one on Friday already attracted some pretty big crowds.

“Fabulous, absolutely best vacation so much fun,” said spectator Becky O’Neil.

The thousands of people who flock to the weekend event help support local businesses.

“We definitely see the spike no question about it.  All of Newport collectively sees a wonderful spike.  It’s a great traditional venue that’s been around you know for a long time that people count on it,” said Mark Holden, Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina.

The Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina sold out its 133 rooms and 60 dock slips months ago.
