Dusty Brown Doubles Up On Home Runs As PawSox Fall To Clippers

Pawtucket Red Sox Press Release

Pawtucket, RI - Columbus starter Zach McAllister pitched seven dominating innings and combined with two relievers on a two-hitter while the Clippers offense slugged three solo homers en route to a 3-1 victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox Tuesday afternoon at McCoy Stadium in front of 8,054 fans to win the four-game series.

Catcher Dusty Brown, a former PawSox player who just signed with Cleveland and was making his Columbus debut, hit solo homers in the fifth and seventh innings to propel the Clippers to the win. McAllister (6-0), making his first start back in Triple-A after being designated for assignment by the Indians last week, allowed only one unearned run and one hit.

The home series loss was only the third all season for Pawtucket (64-54) and just the second in a four-game set (Scranton took three of four at McCoy Stadium on May 17-20). After winning the first two games against Syracuse, the PawSox ended up going 3-4 in the seven-game homestand and have now dropped six of their last nine contests.

Brown's first long ball provided the only run Columbus would score against Pawtucket starter Edwin Escobar. Escobar, in his second start after being acquired from San Francisco in the Jake Peavy deal, lasted six full innings and was charged with one run on eight hits. The lefty, who struck out five and walked a pair, left with the score tied at 1.

Reliever Miguel Celestino (0-2) allowed Brown's second homer, a one-out drive to left in the seventh that put the Clippers ahead to stay. Jesus Aguilar added an insurance tally with a solo shot (15) against Celestino in the eighth.

Austin Adams (eighth inning) and C.C. Lee (ninth inning) each pitched a scoreless frame behind McAllister to finish the victory, with Lee recording his second save of the series and third of the season.

The PawSox next head south for eight straight beginning with a four-game series at Charlotte and then continuing on to Gwinnett. Thursday's opener against the Knights is scheduled for a 7:05 pm first pitch, with PawSox right-hander Anthony Ranaudo (12-4, 2.41) starting against Charlotte righty Erik Johnson (5-6, 6.40). Radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 6:50 pm.

Following the eight-game road trip the PawSox return to McCoy Stadium for an eight-game homestand that begins on Friday, August 15th at 7:05pm. The stand features four games against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and four with Lehigh Valley. Good seats are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com.
