Soon there will be no more driving to Wrentham or Dartmouth to get those sought after factory deals. Warwick will soon become home to the first outlet style mall in the state of Rhode Island

Finding parking at the mall hasn't been a problem since it closed in 20–11. The buildings owners are now hoping to once again fill those spaces with shoppers. The empty space will be transformed into an outlet center.

“I think it would be good because we go to Wrentham Outlets and I think it would bring in a lot of business,” said shopper Sue Blais.

“I like that. Why not? I mean the only other thing we have around here is the Warwick Mall anyway, and everything else is a little far,” said shopper Daniel Reyes.

The 160,000 square foot shopping center will feature top manufacturers and retail outlets. The remaining anchors, Walmart, Kohls and Sears will stay. 40 to 60 new businesses will be added.

“You'll walk in one entrance and you'll be able to go from store to store to store inside—that's very different. So even, in bad weather we think it will be a great place for people to go shopping,” said Scott Avedisian, Mayor of Warwick.

The Mayor says the current plan will provide a big boost for the local economy. The city is already home to the Warwick mall.

“We think this is a great compliment to that. And so you'll have two great malls next to one another again, really leading retail shopping and retail space in the state of Rhode Island,” he said.

The changes will start taking shape in the coming months.

“Our plan is to modernize all aspects of the property including extensive façade renovations and wide range of improvements inside the mall delivering a more sleek and modern mall with amenities that are attractive to shoppers of all ages,” said redeveloper Ed Silvera, President of Surry Equities, LLC.

“I think it's a great idea. I think it will really boost this area back to what it once was,” said shopper Pam O'Brien.

The names of those stores will be announced later this year. The outlets are set to officially open in the fall of 2015.
