PROVIDENCE - State health officials tell ABC 6 that 45 cremated remains have been discovered in connection to an ongoing investigation on the Pennine Funeral Home in Providence.

Officials say 2 of the cremains were discovered in the mortuary section of the Federal Hill funeral home on July 25th, and 41 additional cremains were found the following week in other portions of the buildings.

An additional 2 cremains were collected in association with the ongoing police investigation - which could be related to an additional three bodies found in a storage unit in Johnston Thursday.

The ME's office has identified 43 of the cremains and notified 5 next of kin. Medical professionals are still working on identifying the other remains - but it is impossible to extract DNA from cremated ashes.

The ME's office is still working on identifying the 3 remains found in the Johnston storage unit. Police say documents were found in the unit from the now defunct Pennine Funeral Home.

We will have a live report on the ongoing Pennine Funeral Home investigation beginning at 5.
