A 3-year-old girl has died after falling from the sixth story window at the Hillcrest Village Apartment complex in Providence Friday night.

A police report obtained by ABC 6 says the child was visiting her grandmother with her parents. It states her mother saw her near the window and told her to move away. The mother then turned her back for one second and when she turned back around, she saw her daughter fall through the screened in window.

Fire officials say the child was unconscious and unresponsive when they arrived on scene.

The child was rushed to Hasbro Children's Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

"All I know is she fell. The screen broke. She went right through the window. They should have gates on these things, but they don't have no gates or anything,” said relative Elvis Ramos.

Residents in the complex say emergency crews swarmed the scene right after the incident.

"All I heard was a lot screaming out here and when I looked out my window I saw the rescue squad guy carrying a little girl,” said Deborah Fuller.

The circumstances surrounding the fall remain under investigation but police say there is no signs of foul play.
