The Islamic State extremist group, ISIS, has released a disturbing video showing the apparent execution of a New Hampshire journalist. In that grisly video militants also threaten to kill another American hostage.

James Foley knew the risks when he went to Syria in 2012 to cover the escalating violence, but his family previous said it didn't matter- that he loved his job. He was abducted that same year and had been missing ever since. The video of his apparent murder has left his parents and the community in Rochester heartbroken.

The graphic video, which surfaced Tuesday, shows Foley, 40, as a captive on his knees. He is then beheaded. Standing next to the American journalist is a militant, cloaked in black and holding a knife. Foley's apparent execution is said to be in retaliation for US air strikes on ninety Isis targets.

Although US Intelligence Agencies are still analyzing the video, Foley's family confirmed his death. His mother released a statement on the ‘Find James Foley' Facebook page saying in part: “We thank Jim for all the joy he gave us. He was an extraordinary son, brother, journalist, and person.” She went on to beg the kidnappers to spare the lives of the other hostages.

“This is a tragedy which is beyond imaging. There are no words to describe this kind of inhumanity,” said Rev. Paul Gousse of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. Gousse is the Foley family's pastor.

Foley was a seasoned foreign correspondent on assignment for the Global Post when he disappeared in Northern Syria.

The video also shows a second American journalist, and warns he would be the next captive killed.

President Obama is expected to address the nation Wednesday.
