Family asks for return of stolen urn

Posted: Updated:
Warwick Police are investigating a report of an urn that was stolen from the back of a vehicle at the La Quinta Inn on Jefferson Boulevard.

Police say a silver round urn was taken from a black Mazda SUV. The urn contained the ashes of the victim's grandmother. According to police it was the size of the palms of one's hands and there was a cubic zirconia diamond attached to the middle.

The victim had just attended the funeral earlier that day and was going to return the urn to his family with the ashes the next day.

During the same period of times there were reports of a 2001 silver Mazda with Rhode Island plates driving around the Motel 6 parking lot next door, possibly casing out cars.

"I think that's just strange, like that's someone's dead relative. It is disrespectful to be honest,” said Kassandrah Naveo who works in the area.

"That's very shocking it's kind of like what is this world coming too,” said William Foster who often stays in hotels in the area.

Police say that vehicles in the parking lots of the hotels in that area of Jefferson Boulevard have been targeted for larcenies in the past month and they believe the same person to be responsible.

The family is hoping the suspect will advise someone of the location of the urn so that its contents can be safely returned.

Anyone with information is asked to call Warwick Police at 401-468-4233.
