Pell loans self another $325,000 in RI gov's race

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Clay Pell has loaned himself another $325,000 in his quest to become the Democratic nominee for Rhode Island governor in the final stretch before next week's primary.

Records filed by the Pell campaign on Tuesday show that Pell has loaned his campaign $3.4 million on Aug. 26.

The former Obama administration official is the grandson of the late Sen. Claiborne Pell and husband of Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan.

He is in a heated three-way race for the Democratic nomination for governor against General Treasurer Gina Raimondo and Providence Mayor Angel Taveras.

This year's governor's race is on track to become the most expensive in state history.

More than $12 million had been spent on the race as of the middle of August by the Democratic candidates and Republicans Allan Fung and Ken Block.
