PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A 16-month old child nearly died, says officials from the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF).
DCYF told ABC6 News the Providence toddler was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit on Wednesday from what appeared to be a chemical burn.
An investigation into allegations of abuse and neglect is ongoing at this time.
A release issued by DCYF read in part:
“The family had no prior contact with DCYF. Due to confidentiality laws, we are prohibited from sharing additional information.”
By law, Rhode Island residents are required to report known or suspected incidents of child abuse to DCYF within 24 hours, and can call 1-800-RI-CHILD to report such cases.
Identities have not been released at this time.
