BARRINGTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Kerrianne Bettencourt, 39, of Warren, was arrested for stealing six air conditioning units from the Barrington Shaws Supermarket.

On Thursday April 27th, around 12:30 p.m., Barrington Police responded to the Shaws after reports of an air conditioning unit stolen by a white female.

The suspect was accompanied by a white male.

The two left the Shaws by placing the AC unit into a shopping cart and walking out of the “in” door.

They did not pay for the AC unit.

The couple was last seen on the Barrington bike path.

A week later, the Barrington Times published their police news brief which caught the eye of a Barrington Department Head who then sent an email to the Police Chief.

He told the Chief that he had seen a female pushing a shopping cart down the bike path with two AC units inside.

Upon investigation, Shaws verified that two more AC units were missing, totaling six, valued at $800.

Media networks across Rhode Island posted surveillance video, and numerous tips came in which lead police to identify the suspect as Bettencourt.

Bettencourt was taken into custody Thursday by Warren Police and will appear in court on July 14, 2017.
