TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A Newton woman was arrested by Taunton Police, Monday, after she plowed through 6 mailboxes in her Mercedes and then proceeded to drive into a tree in at a Staple Street home.

Police said Amy Rebello-McCarthy, 39, was driving drunk and blew nearly double the legal limit.  After they arrived on scene, they found nips of alcohol in her vehicle and a lizard in her bra.

“You could tell it was a car crash and you could tell it was close, but I didn't know it was in my front yard,” said Alan Keith, the homeowner of 501 Staple Street who ended up calling 911.

Neighbors and police said Rebello-McCarthy was slurring her words and drooling, acting like the crash was no big deal.

“The first thing she did was light up a cigarette and tell me not to worry about the damage because insurance would pay for it,” said Keith.  He added that one of his neighbors mailboxes flew into the air and struck a vehicle parked in the driveway. “One of the mailboxes actually went through my neighbor’s windshield; you can see the hole in the red car,” he said pointing across the street.

According to Taunton Police, Rebello-McCarthy was driving with Marvin K. Kyewalyanga, 22, of Waltham.  Kyewalyanga attempted to drive the car away without realizing the car had four flat tires.

Inside the car police found several root-beer-flavored vodka nips, both opened and unopened, an open bottle of Brandy and a bag of adult sex toys.

Hidden in Rebello-McCarthy’s bra was a bearded dragon lizard.

The woman was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, driving to endanger and marked lane violation.

Kyewalyanga was found with an air soft replica in his waistband.  He was placed in Protective Custody and released later that day after sobering up.

However, Taunton Police told ABC6 News that he was arrested one day later at JR Tallman & Company INC for disorderly conduct in an unrelated incident.
