WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — We now know the cause of the death of a 7–month–old girl found dead in her Warwick home in February. An autopsy has found baby Willow Ramos was accidentally smothered.

Both of the baby’s parents are being charged with child neglect and cruelty not relation to Baby Willow’s death.

The health department says the official death is asphyxia due to overlay or suffocation.

“Overlay is what it sounds like. There’s some type of cover or overlay over the breathing passages,” says Joseph Wendelken with the Rhode Island Department of Health.

Willow’s father, 37–year–old Ryan Beeley was watching the baby at their home on Airway Road back in February. But when Willow’s mother, 34–year–old Mariah Ramos got home the baby was unresponsive.

In a statement a spokesperson for the Attorney General’s Office said in part that “as a condition of his bail, the father is currently in residential treatment for substance abuse.”

The AG’s Office says their investigation is ongoing and they will make a decision on whether to upgrade the charges once they are done.
