BOCA RATON, F.L. (WLNE) — A Rhode Island native, living in Boca Raton, Florida is making preparations for Hurricane Irma. Vaughan Dugan, who grew up in Middletown, spent much of the day Friday boarding up his businesses.
The restaurateur says by the time he's done it will likely be too late to evacuate, especially given the amount of traffic.
Dugan and his family say they are paying close attention to the forecast and taking necessary precautions.
“We're trying to hunker down. We’re going to sit it out. We’ve got plenty of supplies. We’ve got a generator. I will say everyone is taking this very seriously though which is nice to see,” said Dugan.
Dugan says most people nearby have already packed up and headed to safety. He says the neighborhood looks like a ghost town at this point.
