CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Cranston Police are seeking assistance locating three armed robbery and home invasion suspects after a pursuit and crash on Wednesday.

An officer was patrolling Pontiac Ave around 8:00 a.m., on Wednesday, when he noticed a newer model grey Honda Civic, with three Hispanic males inside.

The Honda had a distinct front license plate that detectives were looking for, police said, noting it was a suspected vehicle in the armed robbery on September 9th of the Pontiac Food Mart on Pontiac Avenue, as well as a violent armed home invasion on September 11th on Gladstone Street.

“The Honda Civic was traveling north at the intersection of Pontiac Avenue and Rolfe Street. As the Cranston officer attempted to stop the vehicle it fled and a police pursuit ensued north on Pontiac Avenue and onto Rt. 10 north,” said Major Todd Patalano with the Cranston Police Department.

“The Honda then made its way off Route 10 taking the Reservoir Avenue off ramp. The pursuit continued north on Reservoir Avenue and ultimately onto Elmwood Avenue where it later crashed into a tree and into a brick building knocking out power to the business on the northeast corner of Elmwood Avenue at Moore Street in the City of Providence.”

After the crash, officers determined the Honda Civic was stolen from a car dealership in Raynham, Massachusetts, with a stolen license plate from Massachusetts fixed to the front.

The driver and both passengers fled the scene on foot with, authorities said, with one suspect believed to be carrying a handgun.

Officers continued with a foot pursuit, but it was confirmed that after fleeing, the three  suspects were picked up by a dark colored Honda minivan on an neighboring street driven by a female operator.

“A search for the suspects continues as detectives follow up on several leads,” said Major Patalano.

Anyone with any information regarding these crimes is strongly encouraged to contact the Cranston Police Detective Division at (401) 942-2211.
