PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A rally in favor of the proposed PawSox stadium deal was organized by UA Local 51 Thursday evening at the State House Rotunda.

UA Local 51 is the union that represents plumbers, pipe-fitters, and refrigeration technicians.

Their reason for supporting the stadium is what one might expect: A new stadium means jobs for them.

During the rally, they chanted things such as “Save Our Sox!”

Pawsox officials including Larry Lucchino and President Dr. Charles Steinberg joined them on the floor.

However, not everyone agrees with public money going to support a new stadium.

In fact, several groups like the Rhode Island GOP strongly oppose the current PawSox deal on the table.

ABC6 News received a press release Thursday from the GOP listing ten reasons why it should be rejected.

At the top of their list was frustration over the state taking on public debt without voter approval, and even comparing the deal to the 38 Studios failure.
