CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — A well-known New England mobster serving time for murder, racketeering and extortion has been denied parole in Rhode Island.

The Providence Journal reports that the state parole board on Friday turned down the application of 74-year-old Frank “Bobo” Marrapese Jr.

Parole Board administrator Matthew Degnan says Marrapese will be able to apply for parole again in a year and a half.

Marrapese was on parole for a 1987 murder of a fellow mobster when he was charged in 2011 in connection with a betting ring that prosecutors said involved several members of the Patriarca crime family.

Marrapese pleaded guilty in 2013 to charges including extortion conspiracy and racketeering conspiracy and was sentenced to nine years in prison.
