DA: Lynn officers justified in fatal shooting of armed man

Posted: Updated:

LYNN, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts prosecutor has concluded that three Lynn police officers were justified when they fatally shot a man who pointed a gun at them last year.

Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett on Thursday released his investigation report of the Jan. 29, 2016, police killing of 33-year-old Randolph McClain.

The report says Lynn officers were trying to serve arrest warrants on McClain in connection with escalating threats of violence against his former girlfriend.

Blodgett said McClain jumped out of a window of a home and ordered a woman out of her car at gunpoint. He said officers surrounded the car, ordered McClain to drop his weapon and opened fire when he pointed the gun at them.

Blodgett cleared officers John Bernard, Joshua Seaman and Michael McEachern of wrongdoing.
