Healing Rams Ride Langevine's Double-Double To Win Over College of Charleston

Posted: Updated:

A second-half outburst from Cyril Langevine helped lead Rhode Island (6-3) past College of Charleston (7-3) Saturday night at The Ryan Center. With the Rams trailing 60-59 with 2:06 remaining, Langevine hit a pair of free throws to give URI a slight edge at 61-60. On the Cougars' next possession, the Rhody sophomore blocked a shot by Joe Chealey and held on to the rebound. He was fouled at the other end of the court and made two more shots from the line to give Rhody a 63-60 cushion.

After Jared Terrell swished a pair of foul shots to make it 65-60 URI, Langevine blocked another shot and Terrell followed with two more makes from the line to push it to 67-60. The Cougars scored on their next possession but Terrell connected again from the line to seal the 68-62 victory.

Rhode Island had taken a 30-27 lead into the break, but CofC used a 9-0 run to pull ahead 36-30 early in the second half. The Rams kept it close however, tying the score three times before reclaiming the lead on a Jeff Dowtin jumper that made it a 49-47 game with 7:00 to go.

URI pushed the advantage to as many as six - on a Terrell layup with 5:32 remaining - but Charleston refused to go quietly. The Cougars used an 11-4 run over the next three minutes to lead 60-59, before Langevine took over down the stretch.
