Providence Police searching for carjacking suspect

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence Police are searching for a carjacking suspect who stole a vehicle with two young children inside of it.

Police responded to 250 Washington Street around 9:30 p.m. for reports of a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival Police spoke with the victim who said he parked and exited his vehicle on Greene Street, leaving his 8-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter in the vehicle.

Police said an unknown suspect entered the driver’s seat of the vehicle and pulled out of the space, fleeing westward on Washington Street, with the victim’s children still inside.

Officers located the vehicle shortly afterward on Elmwood Avenue, around 9:45 p.m.. The children were still inside and unharmed.

Police described the suspect as a young black male with a hooded sweatshirt, and said he fled down Lexington Avenue after exiting the vehicle.

The incident is being investigated by the Providence Police Department Detective Division.
