RICHMOND, R.I. (WLNE) – 17-year-old Matthew Dickerman is pairing his love for computer engineering with his passion for volunteering. The product of that combination, his very own website, Helpademic.org

"Helpademic in my mind can allow other people and everyone to get involved with the community" Dickerman says.

The goal of the website is to make it easy for those who want to give back by connecting them with the service opportunities that are out there.

For each place where help is needed a new red pin is added to the map on the home page.

Dickerman says that he aimed for the website to have a simple design, giving only two options, give help and get help.

"The website, its really just, its a resource. It's not creating ways that need help, its just facilitating the ‘hey here are people who need help, here are people who can help, let's put them together’" he adds.

All of this is a part of Dickermans vision to make a positive impact on the world.

The Chariho High School junior also enlisted some assistance from his dad in order to get the ball-rolling on an ambitious project.

"It’s been exciting watching him grow, mature, come up with ways to give back and of course makes for a very proud parent" his father Dan Dickerman tells ABC6 News.

Although Helpademic is still fairly new, Matthew hopes to see the website grow into something bigger, hoping to truly start an epidemic of help.
