NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) – Authorities confirmed Thursday that a body was recovered in Newport near Goat Island.

Newport Police said units were dispatched to the Goat Island Marina around 12:00 p.m. Thursday for a report of an unconscious person in the water. Newport Fire Department also responded and the male person was recovered from the water.

Police have not publicly identified the body. Newport Police and the U.S. Coast Guard said no identification will be released until the next of kin has been notified.

Police do not suspect foul play at this time The body was turned over to the State Medical Examiner. 

No further information is available at this time.
