CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE–TV)— After the dress, the royal wedding is really all about the hats. Fascinators expected to be front and center for guests attending the big event and those celebrating from afar.
"It's almost a bucket list thing. I want to wear one. I have to wear one. They get excited!" said Stephanie Rossi, owner of Prima Donna Costume Jewelry and Accessories in Cranston.
Rossi is helping her clients get ready in style. She's got a wide selection of fascinators and says customers are always drawn to their lavish look. They're a big hit at bridal showers, themed parties and are a necessity when a prince and actress say 'I do.'
"To celebrate and have your own little party, your own little get together to celebrate a beautiful occasion is always nice so to do it up and do it their way is fun!"
For some women they're a symbol of status or tradition. But for others the British fashion statement is just good fun! They come in all different sizes, shapes and colors. Rossi says if you're planning on wearing one though, there are some rules.
"Everything else should be very simple. You don't want to upstage the hat," she explains.
That means keep your jewelry to a minimum, especially when it comes to earrings. She suggests diamonds, pearls or something classic to ensure an elegant look. Typically, fascinators are worn with a smaller stud style or something very delicate. Nothing "over the top" she added.
