WOOD RIVER JCT, R.I. (WLNE) – A Rhode Island public schools superintendent is recovering from a surgery to remove a brain tumor.

Barry Ricci, Superintendent of Chariho Public Schools, was admitted to Rhode Island Hospital June 11 after experiencing abnormal sensations and motor function issues on the left side of his body. It was discovered during his visit on the same day that Ricci had a brain tumor.

Ricci went into surgery June 14 to remove the tumor. According to Assistant Superintendent Jane Daly, Ricci’s surgery went well and he is on the road to recovery.

Ricci plans to return to his post at some point in the future, though it is unclear at this time when that date will be. Jane Daly will be assuming his duties until he returns.
