NORTH ATTLEBORO, MA (WLNE) – Police are investigating after the body of a 16-year-old was pulled out of Whiting’s Pond Sunday afternoon.

Officials say Jonathan Lozada  was swimming with his cousins when he went under water and did not resurface. One relative rushed onto the beach and tell other family members who began searching the muddy pond for the boy.

Police and fire responded to the pond, and with assistance from Plainville firefighters, they launched a thermal-imaging drone to search below the water and reeds along the banks of the pond. Massachusetts State Police conducted an aerial search of the pond with a helicopter.

Lozada's body was found about 90 minutes later. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities say the family was visiting from Providence.

Whiting's Pond does not have lifeguards.

Loved ones are raising money to help Lozada's family with funeral expenses.
