CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) - A big party was held Wednesday night in Cranston for some very talented softball players.
The city's two very successful all star teams got a special honor.
One of those teams just got back from Jr. Softball World Series.
The players and coaches were honored by local dignitaries.
Also at the event were the unsung heroes of these championship teams, the player's parents.
The girls from both Cranston national teams came to play this year.
The juniors finished an incredible season making it to the final four in the World Series in Washington state.
The majors, came in second at the East Coast Regionals in Connecticut.
The community beamed with pride as both teams were recognized by Mayor Allen Fung and Representative Bob Lancia, an honor their coaches say was so well-deserved.
The proud parents were thrilled to see their girls representing Rhode Island.
Those parents are looking forward to a bit of a breather from all those practices and games but most of their girls will be back at it next year.
Everyone is excited to see what the 2019 season has in store for these young softball stars.
