A series of disturbing videos posted online of a Cranston man walking his 17 year-old girlfriend around the neighborhood on a leash got the attention of authorities in the area.

People who saw the video were obviously concerned about the young girl and contacted police.

The man holding the leash is 25 year-old John McEvoy, someone Cranston Police say is no stranger to run-ins with the law.

In fact, McEvoy just got out of ACI on July 28.

In his criminal career, he's racked up breaking and entering, domestic assault, and weapons' charges.

ABC 6 paid a visit to McEvoy on Thursday. He said the outrage online is all a misunderstanding.

"We were doing nothing wrong. There's nothing against the law with what was going on," he said. "It's not like I was doing anything against her will or something like that. All that stuff is completely consensual."

The videos got the attention of the DCYF which contacted Cranston Police wanting them to do a welfare check on her.

As it turns out, the girl was not there when they went to McEvoy's house.

Officers were staking out the home on Beckwith Street and police approached him, suspecting him of doing a drug deal.

According to a police report, McEvoy was seen putting something in his pocket, and an officer approached McEvoy.

Authorities said he was trying to conceal something and saw a torn plastic baggie in his pocket. Officers then wrestled with McEvoy, before the Cranston man was pepper sprayed and crashed through a window.

But McEvoy claimed he was being targeted by police.

"I did not do anything wrong in that whole incident," he said.

No drugs were found.

As for the other videos posted online of the young girl apparently drinking vodka, McEvoy said it was only water.

"People say you can't get anyone your own age. It's not a matter of that. It's just me and her vibe really well," he said. "Nest year in June, There will be no stipulation at all because she'll be a legal adult."

According to Cranston Police, the girl in the video is under the care of a relative and is safe.

McEvoy was charged with obstruction, assaulting an officer, and resisting arrest in his run-in with officers.

As far as filing charges over the videos, police can't do anything because the girl told them the leash action was consensual and police cannot prove what she was drinking was alcohol.
