SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) – One man is in custody after robbing a South Kingstown Bank Friday morning.

South Kingstown Police responded to the Savings Institute Bank and Trust at 121 Old Tower Hill Road just after 11:30 a.m. Friday for reports of a robbery.

According to Police, the suspect, identified as Ryan Ross, 33, of North Kingstown, entered the bank wearing a mask and obtained an unknown amount of money from a bank employee. According to Police, Ross also struck a customer with a metal rod when they tried to intervene.

After fleeing the scene, Ross was observed by Narragansett Police officers who relayed his description and direction of travel to South Kingstown Police.

During the pursuit, Police said Ross swerved his vehicle toward a responding South Kingstown Patrol  and struck the driver’s side of the cruiser.

 South Kingstown and Narragansett Police pursued the suspect vehicle until it crashed at the intersection of Saugatucket Road and North Road.

The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by South Kingstown Police.

According to Police, Ross had an active warrant for larceny from a motor vehicle from the North Kingstown Police Department at the time of the robbery.

The incident is under investigation and Police have no further comment.
