PUTNAM, Conn. (WLNE) – Connecticut State Police are investigating a crash on Route 44 Saturday evening that left one Rhode Island man dead and another seriously injured.

State Troopers responded to the area of Route 44 at Tucker Hill Road around 2:18 Saturday for reports of a crash.

According to State Police a 2000 Chevrolet truck was traveling east on Route 44 when it traveled over the center divider and struck a 2015 GMC Canyon traveling West.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Raymond Breault, 94, of Pascoag, was transported to UMass Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the GMC, identified as Roland Marois, 70, of Chepachet, was also transported to UMass Memorial, where he was later pronounced dead.

The accident is under investigation, and any witnesses are asked to contact Connecticut State Police at 860-779-4900.
