WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE) -- Westerly police released more details Thursday about a fatal work accident that killed a town mechanic Wednesday afternoon.

Officials said Angelo Turano, who was the chief mechanic for the Department of Public Works was killed by a truck at the Highway Garage yesterday afternoon.

According to police, the driver of the truck had parked his vehicle outside of the garage to report a problem with the brakes.

After examining the truck, Turano got back under the truck. That's when they said the truck moved and hit the mechanic.

Turano was rushed to Westerly Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

He had worked for the DPW for 22 years.
