Taunton firefighters responded to on William Hooke Lane ajacent to the site of a previous general alarm fire for reports of fire.
On arrival heavy smoke and fire vented from a one and two story large commercial building housing Granite and a second alarm was transmitted.
Crews had access issues due to a fence and chains across the roadway, crews gained access to the property and started supression efforts.
Eventually all taunton fire apparatus responded, Bristol County control transmitted a fourth alarm to backfill empty city stations
and stage mutual aid at the scene. command requested 2 additional engines to the fire Dighton and Raynham were dispatched.
Heavy fire took hold of the building as crews attempted to contain it with two ariel devices and multiple large handlines on three sides of the building.
what was left of the two story section collapsed as fire continued to burn in the single story section of the structure. Crews remained on scene into Tuesday
chasing pockets of fire and overhauling. Smoke from the fire was visible for miles and covered Route 44 in Taunton Square, No injuries were reported
and the cause is still under investigation,
