On Sunday around 13:30 Johnston Firefighters were dispatched to Metals Recycling at 89 Celia Street for reports of a fire. The Battalion Chief requested to 4th Engine while enroute due to a large header visible for miles.
On arrival a "Code Red" was transmitted for multiple vehicles well involved. The first in engine utilized the deck gun while Ladder 1 setup their ladder pipe.
Additional manpower was dispatched shortly after arrival due to exposure and water problems. Companies worked for hours in a surround and drown operation working with 3 ladder pipes and multiple large lines. Two large front end loaders lifted stacks of burning vehicles and moved them to be extinguished by firefighters and then further relocated on the lot.
Several minor injuries were reported. Mutual aid to the job was received by North Providence with Engine 2, Ladder 1, Battalion 1, Providence Engine 7, Cranston With Engine 2, Tower Ladder 2, Special Hazards, & Air Supply, along with the Providence Canteen to rehab members.
