1 dead after car crashes into Portsmouth home

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) — The Portsmouth Police Department said one person is dead after a car crashed into a home Sunday morning.

According to authorities, they responded to 1127 Anthony Rd. for a report of a car crash.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they said a car struck a home causing significant damages to both.

The driver of the car, only identified at this time as a woman, sustained severe injuries and was transported to Newport Hospital where authorities said she later died.

Police confirmed the deceased woman was the only person in the car. The house was also occupied but none of the residents were injured.

Portsmouth police Accident Reconstruction Unit and Detective Division were called for further investigation.

Police said preliminary investigations showed the car was traveling North on Anthony Road when it left the roadway and struck the side of a home.

The accident remains under investigation.
