The State Fire Marshal is investigating a deadly late night fire in North Attleboro.

Officials say that one man died in the fast moving fire that broke out around 10:30 pm on Peterson Street.

“Everybody here knows everybody. A lot of the people have lived on this street a very long time so any time anything like this happens it is sad,” said neighbor Jason Fleury.

Neighbors identify the victim as John Allen, a father of two who was living by himself in the home.

“It’s heartbreaking, as a father of two children. It’s just something they won’t recover from,” said Fleury.

A neighbor that didn’t want to go on camera tells ABC 6 News that the fire woke him up. He says he ran next door to try and help but it was too late. That neighbor says he called out for Allen but never heard a response.

Neighbors say Allen was going through a rough time and that electricity had recently been shut off at his home.

He is described as very friendly and a good father who loved his children.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating. The cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious.
