1 person seriously injured in crash that shut down Route 18 in Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (WLNE) — A two-car crash on Route 18 in Bridgewater shut down the road and left a driver with serious injuries Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Bridgewater Police Department, they received multiple 911 calls reporting the crash near administration road at approximately 3 p.m.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they said they found a Chevrolet pickup truck and a Volkswagen SUV blocking Bedford Street, both with serious front-end damage.

Officials said the driver of the pickup truck was treated on the scene but the driver of the Volkswagen was trapped in the car and needed to be cut free.

The driver of the Volkswagen, who remains unidentified, was later flown to a regional trauma center by a medical helicopter.

Police said their investigation determined the pickup truck was driving south on Bedford Street and crossed the center line into the northbound lane, colliding with the Volkswagen.

MassDOT assisted in shutting down Bedford Street while rescue efforts and investigations were underway.

The crash remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Police Department.
