11-year-old victim of hit and run while bringing in neighbors groceries

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Around 12:45 am Sunday morning, there was a three-car accident on Douglas Avenue near River Avenue in Providence.

A pickup truck struck a parked car and one other moving vehicle. The truck then struck an 11-year-old girl who was helping neighbors bring in their groceries.

Providence police and rescue responded and rescue transported the 11-year- old girl to Hasbro Children’s Hospital. At the hospital, it was determined she sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital care.

The truck fled the scene of the accident and shortly after was found on Cumberland Street with severe front end damage. Police determined that the operator of the pickup truck was, Agostinho Politano, 26 of Providence.

Politano was arrested and charged with the duty to stop in accidents resulting in personal injury (felony) and two counts of duty to stop in accidents resulting in damage to a vehicle (misdemeanor).

The Providence Police Accident Reconstruction Team is still investigating and said additional charges may be forthcoming.
