#13 PC Women’s Hockey Rallies To Tie #14 UConn Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No.13 Providence College women’s hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against No. 14 UConn, on Friday, Jan. 20 at Schneider Arena. UConn earned the extra point with the shootout victory.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-Both teams skated through first period scoreless.
-UConn’s Camryn Wong scored at the 12:40 mark of the second period on a breakaway.
-The Huskies lead 1-0 heading into the second intermission.
-Riley Grimley netted the Huskies’ second goal, 2-0, at the 4:20 mark of third period with help from Kate Thurman and Christina Walker.
–Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden) recorded the Friars first goal of the night 11:20 into the third. Noemi Neubauerova (Prague, Czech Republic) and Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine) were each credited with an assist.
-Two minutes later Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) scored off a pass from Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario), to tie the game 2-2.
-Both teams skated through overtime scoreless.
-UConn earned the extra Hockey East point for winning the shootout, 1-0.
–Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) finished the night with 24 saves.
