14-year-old shot in Providence during fireworks, police investigating

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A 14-year-old girl was shot on Sunday night in Providence during a firework show, according to the Providence Police Department.

The girl was shot in the foot around 11 p.m. after three masked suspects fired multiple rounds near 99 Bowdoin Street.

Police say that a large group of people was watching a firework show when the shooting happened.

The girl was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital by a relative.

She was treated and discharged.

ABC6 went to Bowdoin Street Monday morning where we saw police speaking with neighbors close to where the shooting happened.

Bobby Francis, an area property manager sent surveillance video of police responding to the shooting Sunday night.

“MY wife was actually working the overnight and I heard the gunshots and texted her saying I heard the gunshots. Moments later, the police were driving up the street. It was overwhelming and kind of scary actually,” Francis said.

On Monday morning, there were still dozens of used fireworks on the ground close to where the shots were fired and where the group was watching the fireworks.

One resident said the gunshots were an unfortunate ending to a community gathering.

“I have two kids myself and I think it’s unfortunate we can’t be united as a community and spend time together instead of going through unfortunate circumstances like these.”

Police have yet to identify the shooter as the investigation continues.

No arrests have been made.
