PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Department of Health reported 145 new coronavirus cases for Tuesday, the highest number of new cases reported since May.

Rhode Island remains in the substantial transmission category. According to RIDOH, there have been an average of 65.8 new cases per 100,000 people in the past seven days. Tuesday’s positivity rate was 2.6 percent.

Twenty-nine people are currently hospitalized with the virus. Of those 29, 6 are in the ICU and 3 are on a ventilator.

A total of 713,294 Rhode Islanders have received at least one vaccine dose, and 655,786 people in the state are fully vaccinated.

These numbers come as Governor Dan McKee strongly recommended that public schools follow the CDC’s guidance of having students wear masks regardless of vaccination status.
