15 Dogs Survive Blizzard Outside, Get Seized by Police
Fifteen pit bulls weathered the Blizzard of 2010 this past weekend tied to an abandoned house in Warwick.
Police seized the dogs after being told of their plight by Warwick City Council President Bruce Place, who himself had been told by constituents.
Warwick Police say that they spent the blizzard outside, with only a handful of small doghouses for shelter, tied to an abandoned house with what police described as heavy-duty chain usually used for towing vehicles. A city ordinance passed last year prohibits animals from being kept outside without food, water or shelter, and police used that law to make the seizure.
The animals were taken to the Warwick Animal Shelter where they're all doing fine, but the dogs' owner doesn't think he's done anything wrong – and surprised police today with an outburst at the police station.
